The Black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis) is largely a solitary animal, feeding on vegetation. It is a browser which is crepuscular in its movements. It can reach a height of over 1.5 metres and can weigh up to 1400 kilograms. The numbers of Black Rhinos in the wild have reduced considerably over the last 40 years due to poaching and the species is currently classified as Critically Endangered by the IUCN. Sadly, the population of these incredible animals has drastically declined over the past four decades due to rampant poaching. As a result, they are now classified as Critically Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
