EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the majestic presence of a Black Rhinoceros, also known as Diceros bicornis, in its natural habitat. The solitary nature of this magnificent creature is evident as it grazes on vegetation against the backdrop of Etosha National Park in Namibia. With a towering height surpassing 1.5 meters and an impressive weight that can reach up to 1400 kilograms, the Black Rhino commands respect and admiration. Sadly, the population of these incredible animals has drastically declined over the past four decades due to rampant poaching. As a result, they are now classified as Critically Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This classification serves as a stark reminder of our responsibility to protect and preserve these vulnerable species. The image showcases not only the physical attributes but also highlights their crepuscular behavior - being most active during dawn and dusk. Its prehensile lip delicately plucks at foliage while embodying its role as an herbivorous browser. Tony Camacho's expert lens skillfully captures this moment at a waterhole within Etosha National Park – an oasis where wildlife congregates for sustenance and survival. Through this photograph, we are reminded of both the beauty and fragility that exists within our natural world; urging us to take action towards conservation efforts before it's too late.
