Close Up of a Meerkat in South Africa
The meerkat is a small carnivoran belonging to the mongoose family. It is the only member of the genus Suricata. Meerkats live in all parts of the Kalahari Desert in Botswana, in much of the Namib Desert in Namibia and southwestern Angola, and in South Africa.

Asian elephant calf at Whipsnade Zoo
The first Asian Elephant to be born at Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire stands with her 22 year old mother, Kaylee, as she is revealed to the public for the first time. The female calf who was born on March 16, weighs 149 kg, is 99cm tall and is due to be named in the near future.

Snow falls on turf racing
Frost and snow stopped all turf racing in the countryside although some riders still braved the freezing conditions in Leyburn, North Yorkshire.
