Artwork of a gamma-ray burster F006 / 8798

This is a view of a Wolf-Rayet star that has exploded in a gamma ray burst (GRB) event. Two jets have erupted out of the core, through the surrounding nebula (blue). This is the collapsar theory of GRBs, which says GRBs result from the collapse of the core of a massive star, like Type II supernovae but even more powerful. The spin or magnetic field of the black hole forms jets from surrounding material that is being ejected at near the speed of light. The jets are the source of the gamma rays of a GRB, a massive short-lived energy burst, hundreds of times brighter than an ordinary supernova

EDITORS COMMENTS
This artwork print showcases the mesmerizing phenomenon of a gamma-ray burster, specifically F006 / 8798. The image depicts a Wolf-Rayet star that has undergone an explosive transformation in the form of a gamma ray burst (GRB). From the core of this massive star, two powerful jets have erupted, piercing through the ethereal blue nebula that surrounds it. The illustration beautifully captures the essence of the collapsar theory regarding GRBs. According to this theory, these bursts occur when the core of a massive star collapses, resulting in an event even more potent than Type II supernovae. As material is ejected at nearly light speed from around the black hole formed during collapse, its spin or magnetic field generates these awe-inspiring jets. The source of immense energy within GRBs lies within these very jets depicted in vibrant detail against a striking black background. These short-lived bursts are hundreds of times brighter than ordinary supernovae and emit gamma rays that illuminate their surroundings with unparalleled brilliance. Mark Garlick's artistic rendition not only highlights key elements such as polar magnetism and spinning but also conveys profound concepts related to cosmology and stellar evolution. This visual representation serves as a testament to both scientific understanding and creative imagination while exploring themes like star death, black holes, wolf rayets, hypernovae, poles, and magnetic fields. With its blend of astronomical accuracy and imaginative interpretation, this artwork print offers viewers an opportunity to delve into our vast universe's mysteries while appreciating its sheer
