EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the quaint streets of Truro, Cornwall, before the year 1902. As we gaze upon this snapshot, our eyes are drawn to the mesmerizing view that unfolds before us. Looking over the back yards of houses on River Street and John Street, we catch a glimpse of St Georges Road stretching into the distance. In the center of our frame stands the towering Parish Church of St George the Martyr, its magnificent roof and distinctive tower commanding attention. On the left side, partially obscured by neighboring buildings, we can make out St Georges School with its unmistakable bell and weather cock perched atop. But it is not just these architectural marvels that captivate our imagination; it is also what lies beyond. In the far distance looms Isambard Kingdom Brunel's timber fanned Carvedras Viaduct - an engineering feat that once connected this cityscape. This viaduct would later be replaced by a grand all-stone structure in August 1902. As we peer into this Victorian-era photograph, we cannot help but feel transported to another time - a time when wooden rails carried trains through bustling cities like Truro. The atmosphere captured here is one filled with history and charm; a testament to an era long gone yet forever preserved within these frames.
