EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the moment of triumph and excitement as Jim Mollison and Amy Johnson, the renowned British aviators, step out of the sleek and innovative de Havilland DH88 Comet, registered as G-ACSP and nicknamed "Black Magic," following a successful test flight prior to their historic participation in the MacRobertson England to Australia Air Race in October 1934. The DH88 Comet, a two-seat, single-engine racing aircraft, was a design by the de Havilland Aircraft Company, and its aerodynamic shape and advanced features set new standards for aircraft technology at the time. Mollison, an accomplished pilot, and Johnson, the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia, formed an unbeatable team, and their collaboration in this race would make them legends in the annals of aviation history. The successful test flight marked the culmination of weeks of preparation and hard work, and the duo's confidence was palpable as they prepared to embark on their record-breaking journey across the globe.
