This print commemorates the historic ascent of James Sadler from Merton Fields, Oxford on the 7th of July, 1810. James Sadler, the first Englishman to ascend in a hot air balloon on the 4th of October, 1784 from Christ Church Meadow in Oxford, once again took to the skies over two decades later. The image captures the excitement and anticipation of the crowd gathered at Merton Fields, eagerly watching as Sadler prepared for his ascent.
