Dressed in simple robes and carrying their belongings, the pilgrims journey on foot, while some ride horseback, their faces set with determination and devotion. The year is circa 1387, and this scene is reminiscent of the tales penned by Geoffrey Chaucer in his seminal work, "The Canterbury Tales." Chaucer's published collection of stories, featuring a diverse group of pilgrims, is considered a literary masterpiece and a cornerstone of English literature. The Miller, a character from Chaucer's tales, is depicted here in the foreground, his strong and sturdy frame suggesting his occupation as a miller.
