EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the enchanting Cour du Dragon, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Paris, France, in 1884. The image, taken over a century ago, showcases the charming entryway of the historic courtyard, which once led to the Église Saint-Germain-des-Prés. The architectural masterpiece in the background is the Église Saint-Germain-des-Prés, a historic church with a rich history that dates back to the 6th century. The church, with its Gothic architecture, is a testament to the enduring beauty and craftsmanship of the past. The intricately designed entryway, adorned with sculptures of dragons and other mythical creatures, is a sight to behold. The sculptures, created by the renowned French sculptor Antoine Crozat, add an air of mystery and intrigue to the courtyard. However, this photograph holds a bittersweet tale. By 1935, the Hotel Pierre de Vigny, which once stood proudly on the left side of the courtyard, had been demolished. The workers, seen in the photograph, were likely involved in the demolition process. The loss of the hotel, which was a significant part of Parisian history, is a reminder of the ever-changing cityscape. Yet, the Cour du Dragon and the Église Saint-Germain-des-Prés continue to stand, preserving the rich history and charm of Paris.
