Hubble image of protoplanetary systems

Protoplanetary discs. Five protoplanetary discs, also known as proplyds, discovered by the Hubble Space Telescope in the Orion Nebula (M42). Four of them are seen as bright brown spots and the last one at top centre is black. These are protoplanetary discs which surround recently born stars; they are formed by gas and dust and are roughly twice the size of the Solar System. They might evolve and, following a process of condensation, form planetary systems similar to our Solar System. The brown ones are illuminated by radiation of nearby stars whereas the black one is the furthest away from bright stars

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the mesmerizing beauty of protoplanetary systems, as captured by the Hubble Space Telescope in the Orion Nebula (M42). The image reveals five distinct protoplanetary discs, also known as proplyds, each telling a unique story of cosmic creation. Four of these discs appear as vibrant brown spots, basking in the illuminating radiation emitted by nearby stars. Meanwhile, at the top center of the frame stands a solitary black disc, situated farthest away from any bright stellar companions. These extraordinary protoplanetary discs encircle newly formed stars and are composed of gas and dust particles. Remarkably, they span approximately twice the size of our own Solar System. Scientists believe that over time these dynamic structures may undergo evolution and condensation processes to potentially give rise to planetary systems akin to our familiar celestial neighborhood. The awe-inspiring nature of this photograph lies not only in its aesthetic appeal but also in its profound implications for understanding alien planetary systems beyond our own. With this remarkable glimpse into distant realms within Orion Nebula, we gain valuable insights into cosmic evolution and marvel at how even amidst vast darkness there exists boundless potential for new worlds to take shape.
