Eugen Langen, German engineer C016 / 8869

Eugen Langen (1833-1895), German engineer. Langen worked on early internal combustion engines with Nikolaus Otto, and their Otto-Langen engine won the Grand Prize at the 1867 Paris World Exhibition. Otto and Langen went on to found what is now the Deutz AG engine manufacturing company. Langen also designed the Wuppertal monorail. This photograph is courtesy of the Otto Engine Company, Philadelphia, USA. It was published in The Epic of Industry (1926), volume 5 of The Pageant of America: A Pictorial History of the United States. This was a 15-volume series that commemorated 150 years since the founding of the USA in 1776
