This iconic photograph captures the exhilarating moment of Rangers Football Club's historic EUFA Cup semi-final victory over Sporting Lisbon in 1997. In this image, Rangers manager Walter Smith, with a determined look in his eyes, watches on as his team celebrates their hard-fought 2-0 win. The atmosphere in Ibrox Stadium that night was electric, as the Scottish giants took a significant step towards European glory. The EUFA Cup, now known as the Europa League, had long been a coveted prize for Rangers, who had reached the semi-finals on several occasions but had never managed to make it to the final. However, under the guidance of Walter Smith, the team was more determined than ever to make history. The first half of the match was a closely contested affair, with both teams creating chances. But it was Rangers who broke the deadlock in the 55th minute, when Brian Laudrup curled a beautiful free-kick past the Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper. The second goal came just five minutes later, when Tore Andre Flo headed home from a corner. The crowd erupted in jubilation as the final whistle blew, and the players celebrated their well-deserved victory. Smith, who had led the team to three Scottish Premier League titles and two Scottish Cups during his tenure, was hailed as a hero.
