EDITORS COMMENTS
In the midst of a severe flu epidemic in December 1969, renowned medicine manufacturers are leaving no stone unturned to combat the widespread illness. This print captures the bustling scene at Parke-Davis & Co. , a prominent pharmaceutical firm in Hounslow, Middlesex. Faced with an overwhelming demand for their highly recommended cough remedy, which had become scarce due to the outbreak, this dedicated company took extraordinary measures. Stepping up to assist with bottling operations were fully trained pharmacists who selflessly volunteered their expertise. Normally reserved for women employees, this task required meticulous attention as bottle tops and labels were carefully affixed onto each container of medicine. The absence of 30 female workers who fell victim to the flu further emphasized the urgency and importance of this collective effort. The image showcases a production line brimming with activity as these skilled pharmacists work tirelessly to ensure that every bottle is prepared for distribution. Their commitment and dedication shine through as they navigate through stacks of bottles on conveyor belts, determined to meet the pressing needs of doctors and patients alike during this challenging time. This snapshot from Memory Lane Prints serves as a poignant reminder of how medical research and manufacturing can unite in times of crisis. It highlights not only the resilience and adaptability within our healthcare system but also pays tribute to those unsung heroes who go above and beyond their call of duty.
