This evocative image captures the devastating impact of World War I on the historic city of Arras, located in the Pas-de-Calais department of Northern France. Dating back to the 13th century, Arras was once a thriving center of culture and history, renowned for its stunning architecture, including the magnificent St. Vaast Abbey and the city hall. In this photograph, taken in 1915, the once-majestic structures lie in ruins, a poignant reminder of the brutal realities of war. The cathedral, with its intricate Gothic facade, is reduced to rubble, its spires and stained glass shattered.
