Amid the chaos and destruction of the Blitz, London Fire Brigade (LFB) crews bravely fought to control the inferno at the Blackfriars Goods Depot on Southwark Street, SE1, following an incendiary bombing raid on 16 October 1940. In this powerful image, firefighters are seen struggling to control a jet of water as they battle the flames engulfing the railway yard.
