Born on December 16, 1790, in Coburg, Saxony, Leopold embarked on a remarkable journey that would lead him to the throne of Belgium. The year 1831 marked a pivotal moment in Belgian history, as the Belgian Revolution broke out against the Dutch rule. Leopold, who was then the Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, was chosen as the first King of the newly independent Belgian state.
