This evocative portrait captures the enigmatic figure of Hubert van Eyck, a pioneering artist from the Flemish region of present-day Belgium during the late Middle Ages. Born around 1366 in Maaseik, van Eyck is considered one of the founding fathers of the Early Netherlandish painting school.
