Flemish is a language spoken in Belgium, the Netherlands, and parts of France, and is a West Germanic language that is closely related to Dutch and English. Flemish has its own dialects, which are divided into two main groups: East Flemish and West Flemish. The language has been around since the Middle Ages, when it was used by merchants in the area. Today, it is an official language in Belgium and is widely spoken by both native speakers and those who have learned it as a second language and has also been influenced by French over time due to its proximity to France. As such, there are many French loanwords present in modern-day Flemish speech.
