HMS Shark: A Proud Pre-WW1 British Destroyer (1913) This evocative photograph captures the sleek and powerful form of HMS Shark, a British Acasta-class destroyer launched in 1912. The ship, named after the agile and tenacious shark, was one of the most advanced destroyers of its time, embodying the cutting-edge naval technology of the early 20th century. With a top speed of over 27 knots, HMS Shark was a formidable force on the open sea. The image, taken in 1913, shows the ship in pristine condition, with its funnel and smokestacks billowing white smoke, and its guns and masts standing tall and proud.
