In this 17th-century painting by the Italian master Salvator Rosa, titled "Odysseus and Nausicaa," we witness a poignant moment from the epic Greek myth, The Odyssey. Odysseus, the legendary hero and protagonist of Homer's epic poem, is depicted here as a shipwrecked man, stranded on the shores of Scheria, an island in the Mediterranean Sea. Nausicaa, the beautiful princess of the island, is shown in the foreground, assisting the weary traveler.
