This exquisitely hand-carved mottled red sandstone figurine represents Ardhanarishvara, the androgynous form of the Hindu deities Shiva and Parvati. Dating back to the 2nd-3rd century, this artefact is a testament to the rich artistic heritage of South Asia. The sculpture depicts Shiva in his dual role as the god of destruction and creation, with his right side representing the masculine aspect and his left side the feminine. Parvati, the goddess of love, fertility, and the consort of Shiva, is depicted merging with him, symbolizing the unity of male and female energies.
