Saadian Tombs in Marrakech

The Saadian tombs in Marrakech date back to the times of Sultan Ahmad al-Mansur (1578-1603). The tombs were discovered in 1917 and restored for services of Fine Arts. The tombs are by their beautiful decoration, one of the biggest attractions for visitors to Marrakech. The mausoleum comprises the remains of about sixty members of the Saadi Dynasty, among which are those of Ahmad al-Mansur and his family. The building consists of three rooms. The most famous is that of the twelve columns containing the tomb of the son of Ahmad al-Mansur. The stele is made of cedar and stucco. The monuments are made of Carrara marble. Outside the building a garden with graves of soldiers and servants are available

The Saadian Tombs in Marrakech are a breathtaking display of history and artistry, dating back to the 16th century during the reign of Sultan Ahmad al-Mansur. Discovered in 1917 and restored for preservation, these tombs are a must-see attraction for visitors to Marrakech. The intricate decoration of the mausoleum is truly stunning, with Carrara marble monuments and a cedar and stucco stele marking the tomb of Ahmad al-Mansur's son. The building itself consists of three rooms, each holding the remains of around sixty members of the Saadi Dynasty, including the sultan himself and his family. Surrounded by a peaceful garden where soldiers and servants were laid to rest, the Saadian Tombs exude an air of exoticism and grandeur. The ornate columns, delicate arches, and gold accents add to the mystique of this historical site. As you gaze up at the ceiling adorned with intricate carvings or walk through corridors lined with marble structures, you can't help but feel transported back in time. The blend of Islamic architecture with Berber influences creates a unique atmosphere that captures both beauty and reverence.
