EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage print captures a piece of history in the form of an advertising counter card for Drumhead Cigarettes, dating back to 1925-27. The rectangular card features a dark blue background with a pale blue border, creating an eye-catching contrast. Positioned on the left side is an open pack of ten Drumhead cigarettes, which extends above and below the main card. Prominently displayed text reads "10 for // 4D" indicating the affordable price at that time. On the reverse side, there is a support allowing the card to stand upright. A handwritten note adds further intrigue as it suggests this item was "suitable for // Window Bill". This unique detail provides insight into how this advertisement may have been utilized during its time. The significance of this image lies not only in its historical value but also in its representation of various themes such as music and military associations. With references to drum heads and uniformed drummers, it evokes images of military bands and their rhythmic performances. It's worth noting that this print is part of Nottingham City Photos collection and does not mention any commercial use or affiliation with John Player & Sons tobacco company. Nevertheless, it serves as a captivating glimpse into advertising practices from decades ago while showcasing elements that resonate with both collectors and enthusiasts alike
