EDITORS COMMENTS
Dr Anne Gilmore, the compassionate visionary behind the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow, is captured in this poignant print alongside the beloved Princess Diana. In 1980, Dr Gilmore established the New Glasgow Hospice Trust as a remarkable community outreach project, driven by her unwavering dedication and supported by a group of passionate volunteers. Recognizing the tremendous impact of Dr Gilmore's work, the City of Glasgow graciously bestowed this extraordinary institution to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer as a wedding gift. As a result, it was renamed The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice - an enduring testament to their commitment to philanthropy. This image transports us back to circa 1982 when these two inspiring women united their efforts for a noble cause. Their shared compassion radiates through their smiles as they stand side by side within these hallowed walls. The House of Windsor's legacy intertwines with that of Dr Anne Gilmore's tireless advocacy for quality end-of-life care. This photograph serves as a timeless reminder not only of their collaboration but also highlights how royalty can use its influence for positive change. As we reflect on this snapshot from history, let us honor both Dr Anne Gilmore and Princess Diana for their profound contributions towards creating a haven where comfort and dignity are offered during life's most challenging moments.
