Following the untimely death of her Protestant cousin Edward VI, Lady Jane was declared the queen of England by her ambitious father-in-law, the Duke of Northumberland. However, her claim to the throne was tenuous at best. Ultimately, it was Henry VIII's elder daughter Mary I whose claim prevailed and she ascended to become Queen Mary I. Lady Jane Grey's tragic fate awaited her as she faced execution on February 12th, 1554.
