EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the 1970s, specifically September 4th, 1975, where we find ourselves at the South Gosforth Railway Station. The image offers a general view of this once bustling transportation hub, now in a state of dilapidation. As we examine the picture closely, our eyes are immediately drawn to the various elements that tell a story of neglect and abandonment. The bridges overhead stand as silent witnesses to countless journeys taken by commuters from all walks of life. However, their weathered appearance hints at years gone by without proper maintenance. Graffiti adorns the walls surrounding the platform area - an artistic expression left behind by individuals whose identities remain unknown. This unexpected burst of color amidst decay adds an intriguing contrast to the scene. A small group of people can be seen scattered across the platform, representing a mixed age range - perhaps waiting for trains that no longer arrive or reminiscing about busier times when this station was alive with activity. The seats along the platform have lost their luster over time and show signs of wear. Weeds sprout defiantly between cracks in tracks that were once traversed by trains on regular schedules. This evocative photograph transports us back in time and invites contemplation on how public transport infrastructure can fall into disrepair if not properly cared for. It serves as a reminder that even places filled with memories can succumb to neglect if left unattended.
