With the open-air concert season upon us, we take a look back to one such occasion in July 1973, when visitors to Alnwick Castle found themselves being entertained by members of the Northern Sinfonia Orchestra.
An octet of wind players gave a concert in the grounds of the castle, consisting of music by Mozart and Mtys Seiber.
Concert manager Tony Froud said: The sort of music they are playing was written for open-air performances, usually to accompany a meal or for light entertainment after dining. Weve found them extremely popular elsewhere.
The orchestra followed up with a concert in Beverley Minister the following day, then a weeks work recording two programmes for BBC Radio Three, before rounding off their season with five concerts in the Lake District
