With the open-air concert season upon us, we take a look back to one such occasion in

With the open-air concert season upon us, we take a look back to one such occasion in July 1973, when visitors to Alnwick Castle found themselves being entertained by members of the Northern Sinfonia Orchestra.
An octet of wind players gave a concert in the grounds of the castle, consisting of music by Mozart and Mtys Seiber.
Concert manager Tony Froud said: The sort of music they are playing was written for open-air performances, usually to accompany a meal or for light entertainment after dining. Weve found them extremely popular elsewhere.
The orchestra followed up with a concert in Beverley Minister the following day, then a weeks work recording two programmes for BBC Radio Three, before rounding off their season with five concerts in the Lake District

EDITORS COMMENTS
Transporting us back to the enchanting summer of 1973, this print captures a momentous open-air concert held at the majestic Alnwick Castle. As visitors gathered in awe, members of the esteemed Northern Sinfonia Orchestra graced them with an unforgettable performance. Against the backdrop of the castle's grandeur, an octet of talented wind players took center stage, serenading their audience with melodies crafted by Mozart and Mtys Seiber. The music chosen for this delightful occasion was specifically composed for open-air performances - a perfect accompaniment to a leisurely meal or light entertainment after dining. Concert manager Tony Froud expressed his delight at witnessing such immense popularity elsewhere during similar events. It is no wonder that attendees were captivated by these skilled musicians as they breathed life into classical compositions. Following their remarkable display at Alnwick Castle, the orchestra continued their musical journey with a concert in Beverley Minister on the following day. Their dedication knew no bounds as they then embarked on recording two programmes for BBC Radio Three over a week's time before concluding their season with five breathtaking concerts amidst the picturesque landscapes of Lake District. This extraordinary photograph encapsulates not only an era but also showcases how music has always had the power to unite people under nature's vast expanse.
