Top pop group the Specials came home to Coventry last night

Top pop group the Specials came home to Coventry last night...and a rousing welcome from more than 2000 fans. The fans packed Tiffanys in the Precinct for the groups last concert of a 48-venue tour of Britain. For one man in particular, it was the night of a lifetime. Mr. Terry Hall senior, whose son, Terry is lead singer with the Specials, watched the group in action for the first time. " Its out of this world, " said Mr Hall, a technical author at the Rolls Royce Parkside plant in Coventry. " I never believed it could be so good. I m seen him on television but it was never as exciting as this." The organisers had invited the parents of all the members of the groups appearing at the concert - Dexys Midnight Runners, the Specials and the Selector. the Specials are rapidly becoming one of Britains top groups. They have had two hit singles and a top-selling album this year. Twent-year-old Terry used to do clerical work at David Fletcher Ltd. the stamp and coin dealers in Station Square, Coventry. His mother, Joan, a trimmer at Talbots Canterbury Street plant in Coventry, who was also at last nights concert, said: " Its just amazing that my son has come from working in an office to this. I think the whole thing is fantastic." Fans queued for more than two hours for last nights performance. Fears about forged tickets were allayed when only two forgeries came to light. The Specials are to appear in Coventry again on December 20th, at a charity concert for the Kampuchea Appeal.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Top pop group the Specials received a rousing welcome as they returned to their hometown of Coventry last night. More than 2000 fans packed into Tiffanys in the Precinct for the group's final concert of their extensive 48-venue tour across Britain. The atmosphere was electric, but for one man in particular, it was an unforgettable night. Mr. Terry Hall senior, father of lead singer Terry Hall, experienced his son's performance live for the first time and couldn't contain his excitement. As a technical author at Rolls Royce Parkside plant in Coventry, he marveled at the incredible showmanship displayed by his son and exclaimed that it was "out of this world". The concert organizers had extended invitations to all parents of band members from Dexys Midnight Runners, the Specials, and the Selector who were performing that evening. The Specials have been rapidly rising through ranks to become one of Britain's top groups with two hit singles and a best-selling album this year alone. Fans eagerly queued for over two hours before witnessing an unforgettable performance by their beloved band. Concerns about forged tickets were put to rest when only two counterfeit tickets were discovered amidst the crowd. This memorable event marked just one stop on their journey as The Specials are scheduled to return to Coventry on December 20th for a charity concert benefiting Kampuchea Appeal.
