This evocative image captures the poignant scene of a burial party at work near the La Belle Alliance inn, seven days after the fateful Battle of Waterloo on June 18, 1815. The Napoleonic Wars had reached their climax in this historic encounter between the French army, led by Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, and the Seventh Coalition, comprised of forces from various European powers. The Battle of Waterloo, fought in present-day Belgium, resulted in a decisive victory for the Allied forces, marking the end of Napoleon's reign and his subsequent exile to the island of Saint Helena.
