Born on 19 August 1890 in Sigmaringen, Germany, as the only daughter of Prince William of Hohenzollern, Princess Augusta was destined for a life of royalty. Her marriage to Manuel II, which took place on 4 September 1913, was a significant event in European royal history. Manuel II was the last King of the House of Braganza and the Portuguese monarchy, which was overthrown in the Republican Revolution of 1910.
