This photograph, taken by the Illustrated London News Ltd, captures Valerie Taylor in her element, as she swims gracefully through the crystal-clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. With a mask and snorkel on her face, and a camera in hand, Taylor is completely at peace in her underwater world. Taylor's career began in the late 1940s when she started working as a swimwear model and underwater photographer for various Australian magazines.
