Born in 1879, Wintringham made history when she was elected as the Independent Liberal MP for Louth in 1921. Her groundbreaking achievement came during a time when women's suffrage was still a contentious issue, and her election marked a significant milestone in the fight for gender equality in British politics. Wintringham's political career began in earnest during the First World War, when she served as a volunteer worker and became involved in local politics.
