Dating back to the 12th century, between 1194 and 1250, this historical print showcases the King's passion for falconry, a popular pastime among the European aristocracy during the Middle Ages. Friedrich II was a complex and enigmatic figure, ruling the Kingdom of Sicily during a time of political instability and religious upheaval. Born in Germany, he was the Holy Roman Emperor and the King of Jerusalem, but his ambitions led him to claim the throne of Sicily as well.
