This haunting image captures Antoine Quentin Fouquier-Tinville, a French lawyer and revolutionary statesman who played a pivotal role in the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution. Born in 1746, Fouquier-Tinville rose to prominence as a lawyer in the Parisian tribunals, where he gained a reputation for his eloquence and legal acumen. In 1792, he was appointed to the Revolutionary Tribunal, a special court established to try those accused of counter-revolutionary activities. As the prosecutor general of the tribunal, Fouquier-Tinville became notorious for his relentless pursuit of justice, condemning countless victims to the guillotine.
