Born in Kilkenny, Ireland, in 1894, Brinckman was an architect before enlisting on November 19th, 1915. His address at the time of enlistment was 1047 River Avenue, South Vancouver, BC. Brinckman served in B Section of the 5th CMGC in France. The album's front cover bears the date and the regimental number 760254 of the dedicated soldier. Each drawing was carefully executed in an Army notebook, numbered 152. The images depict various scenes from military life, including soldiers at rest, landscapes, and even a few whimsical sketches.
