Created during the period when blockbooks were prevalent, this particular work stands out as an early blockbook bible that served as a valuable guide for impoverished clerics and friars in northern Europe. The image captures two folios from this extraordinary bible. On the left page, we witness a New Testament scene where Christ's baptism takes center stage. Flanking this pivotal moment are depictions of Pharaoh's army being engulfed by the Red Sea and spies returning with grapes from Canaan. The right page presents another powerful tableau, featuring the temptation of Christ at its core.
