In this black-and-white sketch, we find Prince Henry, the Duke of Gloucester, captured in a moment of quiet introspection during a sitting granted to the Illustrated London News in 1961. The Duke, born on March 31, 1900, was the grandson of King George V and the cousin of Queen Elizabeth II. At the time of this portrait, he was serving as the Duke of Edinburgh's representative in Australia and New Zealand.
