This evocative print captures the decisive moment of the Battle of Sedan during the Franco-Prussian War in September 1870. In the foreground, General de Wimpffen, commander of the French Second Army, is seen conferring with Marshal de Mac-Mahon, who led the French forces during the engagement. The Battle of Sedan was a turning point in the Franco-Prussian War, which began in July 1870 when Prussian forces invaded France.
