EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the thrilling world of motorsport in 1922. The image captures the start of the Junior Long Handicap race at JCC Brooklands, a legendary racing circuit that was renowned for its high-speed battles. In this particular moment frozen in time, we see the limit man A. A. Pollard with his Alvis car taking position number 15 on the starting grid. Right beside him is E. C. Gordon England with his ABC vehicle marked as number 14. As they prepare for an adrenaline-fueled competition, their intense focus is palpable. The atmosphere surrounding them is electric, filled with anticipation and excitement as spectators eagerly await the roaring engines and screeching tires that are about to fill the air. Other competitors such as W. L Harris in his Marlborough car, E. B Ware driving a Morgan, W. H Oates behind the wheel of a Lagonda, and Bertie Kensington Moir piloting an Aston-Martin can also be seen lining up alongside Pollard and Gordon England. It's clear from this snapshot that these fearless drivers were ready to push themselves to their limits in pursuit of victory. And it was Ware who emerged triumphant on this occasion, effortlessly crossing the finish line at an impressive speed of 77.5 mph. This photograph not only captures a historic moment in motorsport history but also serves as a reminder of our enduring fascination with speed and competition on wheels.
