EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the formidable World War 2 Soviet MiG-3 fighter aircraft, C015 / 6178. The image captures a rear three-quarter view of this iconic fighter, highlighting its sleek design and powerful presence. Designed by Artem Mikoyan and Mikhail Gurevich, the MiG-3 entered service in 1941 as a high-altitude interceptor for the Soviet Union. Equipped with a single piston engine, it boasted an impressive armament consisting of one 12.7mm gun and two 7.62mm guns. Although initially intended for high-altitude interception missions, the MiG-3 faced challenges when engaging in low-level combat on the Eastern Front against Germany during World War II. Its performance was hindered by difficulties in flying and sluggishness at lower altitudes. Despite these limitations, over 3,172 units of this Russian fighter were produced before being retired from service at the end of the war. This monochrome photograph pays tribute to its significant role in defending Russia's skies during one of history's greatest conflicts. With its propeller prominently displayed and its single-seat configuration evoking images of courage and determination, this print is not only a testament to military prowess but also serves as a patriotic symbol representing Russia's unwavering commitment to national defense during wartime.
