British troops of the 6th Airborne Division reached the Baltic Coast of Wismar, due north of Schwerin, Germany on 3rd May where they made contact with a Russian armoured squadron which had pushed westward from Rostock.
Men of the two armies quickly made friends, and exchanged drinks and cigarettes.

On the officers right holding his hand is the Liaison Officer, Lieutenant P.G Insole of 92 Wentworth A venue, Galt, Ontario, Canada.
