EDITORS COMMENTS
This heartfelt print captures the beloved Uncle Charlie Lennon, a cherished figure in the life of legendary musician John Lennon. In this snapshot taken in Liverpool, Uncle Charlie is seen affectionately embracing a statue of his nephew while holding a bouquet of vibrant flowers. A talented singer and composer himself, Charlie was not only known for his familial connection to John but also for his culinary skills as a chef. Born as the youngest brother of John's father Freddie Lennon, Charlie led an adventurous life that took him across various parts of the country before eventually settling in Brighton for some time. However, it was in Liverpool where he found solace and returned to live out his final years in Sefton Park. Tragically, on May 26th, 2002 at the age of 83, Uncle Charlie passed away. It was widely believed that he held a special place in John's heart and was considered his favorite uncle. This photograph holds even greater significance as it was taken on October 9th, 1990 – what would have been John Lennon's 50th birthday. Preserved by Stephen Shakeshaft through Memory Lane Prints, this image serves as both a poignant reminder of family ties and an homage to two remarkable individuals who left an indelible mark on music history: John Lennon and his adored Uncle Charlie.
