Merseyside is a metropolitan county in North West England, and is bordered by Cheshire to the south and east, Greater Manchester to the east, and Lancashire to the north. The county has an estimated population of 1.38 million people and covers an area of around 227 square miles. Merseyside is home to two cities: Liverpool and Birkenhead, as well as several towns including St Helens, Southport, Bootle, Wallasey and Wirral. The region has a rich industrial heritage with many former docks still visible along its coastline. It also boasts some of Britain's most iconic landmarks such as the Royal Liver Building in Liverpool city centre and Port Sunlight Village near Birkenhead.
