EDITORS COMMENTS
This historic photograph captures the intense moment during the Men's 3000 metre hurdles final at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The image shows British athlete, Myer Prinstein Evenson, in mid-leap over one of the water-filled hurdles. Evenson had won his heat with an impressive performance, but ultimately finished in second place in the final race. The year was 1932, and the Olympic Games were held in the United States for the first time. The track and field events took place at the Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, with athletes from around the world competing in various disciplines. The Men's 3000 metre hurdles was one of the most challenging events, requiring a combination of speed, agility, and endurance. Evenson, a hardworking and determined athlete, had trained tirelessly for the Olympics. He had already made history by becoming the first British athlete to qualify for the final of the event. As he approached the finish line, he was in contention for the gold medal. However, in the final stretch, he was overtaken by the eventual winner, American Edwin Wide. Despite the disappointment of finishing second, Evenson's performance in the 1932 Olympics marked the beginning of a new chapter in his athletic career. He continued to compete in international competitions, setting new records and inspiring a new generation of British athletes. This photograph is a testament to the hard work, determination, and grit of Evenson and the other athletes who participated in the 1932 Olympics. It is a reminder of the rich history of the Olympic Games and the enduring spirit of competition that drives athletes to push themselves to the limit.
