EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage print captures a piece of postal history that pleased Ireland in October 1879. The card featured in the image was specifically designed for overseas mail, replacing a previous version that had omitted Ireland from its title - an unfortunate oversight corrected with this new edition. Posted from Hull to Magdeburg, the reverse side of the card reveals an order form for three cases of goods from John Dewhurst of Hull, with shipping arranged through C.M. Lofthouse also based in Hull. The brown printing and 1d printed stamp featuring Queen Victoria's head add to the charm and authenticity of this historical artifact. The attention to detail and care put into creating this card is evident, making it a valuable addition to any collection or display of postal memorabilia. It serves as a reminder of a time when communication across borders required meticulous planning and coordination, highlighting the importance placed on efficient mail delivery services. Holt's Battlefields Collection has preserved this piece of history beautifully, allowing us to appreciate not only its aesthetic appeal but also its significance in documenting the evolution of postal systems over time. A true gem for enthusiasts of philately and historical artifacts alike!
