EDITORS COMMENTS
Step back in time with this delightful and humorous depiction of hairstyles from the Roaring Twenties, as presented in this charming vintage print from Mary Evans Prints Online. The illustration, titled "The Language of Hairstyles," offers a playful take on the various hairstyles popular during this era. Join us as we decipher the meaning behind these fun and quirky hairstyles! First up, we have "The Joan of Arc" - a bold and dramatic style that pays homage to the legendary heroine, with a high, pointed bun at the crown. Next, we have "The Permanent (wave)" - a chic and sophisticated choice for the modern woman, complete with carefully crafted waves that last for days. But what about "After the Melee!"? This wild and untamed style suggests a woman who has been in a scuffle, with hair that looks as if it's been caught in a windstorm. And then there's "The Boy," with its androgynous, short and neatly combed hair, a style that defied gender norms of the time. Last but not least, we have the mysterious "Hair in the Soup!" - a style that leaves us wondering if this woman has accidentally dropped her hair into her pot of soup or if it's a daring new fashion statement. This whimsical illustration not only showcases the unique and varied hairstyles of the 1920s but also offers a glimpse into the fun and playful spirit of the era. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the laughs as we explore the language of hairstyles from this fabulous decade!
