This stunning and intricately detailed print is a beautiful example of early entomological illustration, featuring the Oak Achalles Weevil, Acalles roboris, and its host plant, Lobelia urens, or Acrid Lobelia. The illustration is taken from John Curtis's seminal work, "British Entomology," published between 1824 and 1839. The Coleoptera section of this comprehensive work was overseen by the renowned entomologist, Thomas Say, and the illustrations were produced by the skilled hand of Ledipotera, the pseudonym for the talented artist and engraver, William Sharp Macleay.
