This postcard print features a charming image of Princess Irene of Holland and her husband, Carlos, Duke of Parma, taken during their happy years together before their divorce in 1981. Princess Irene was born on March 5, 1939, in The Hague, Netherlands. She was the eldest daughter of Prince Bernhard of Lippe-Biesterfeld and Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. Princess Irene married Carlos, Duke of Parma, on June 2, 1964, in a grand ceremony held in The Hague. Carlos, a member of the Spanish House of Bourbon-Parma, was the Count of Parma at the time of their marriage. The couple's marriage was a significant event in European royal history, as it marked the first time that a Dutch princess had married a Spanish prince since the 16th century. Their union brought together two prominent European royal families, and the couple was beloved by their subjects and the international community.
