Having received a tip that notorious criminal couple Dr. Hawley Crippen and Ethel Le Neve were aboard the SS Montrose, bound for Quebec from Antwerp, Dew took the faster SS Laurentic to intercept them at the St. Lawrence River. The year was 1910, and the case of Dr. Crippen, a suspected murderer, had gripped the world. With the help of a telegraph operator, Dew had learned of the couple's departure from Europe and set out to bring them to justice.
