This evocative photograph captures the stern yet resolute visage of General Pierre Thébaud Janin, the esteemed French military leader who served as Commander-in-Chief of the Czechoslovak Army during World War One. Born in 1863 in France, Janin's military career began in the French Army, where he rose through the ranks to become a decorated officer.
